What is the purpose of a Scrum of Scrums?
Minimizing technical debt is a significant benefit of the collaboration and that is enhanced for complex products when utilizing a Scrum of Scrums framework. Collaboration minimizes duplicate features and rework of features later in the lifecycle of the product delivery.
While the benefits of utilizing a scaled framework with the Scrum of Scrums focus are numerous, there is a danger that the framework can be solely used as a status reporting event. Scrum of Scrum leaders such as Ken Schwaber have implemented techniques that focus on the collaboration of the scrum team members discussing actual delivery work during these stand ups rather than using the ceremony to rehash where individual tasks stand.
Some Scrum of Scrum experts prefer to keep these ceremonies at the Product owner and Scrum master level. Impediments are the primary focus with product owners collaborating as a team to remove conflicts and possible technical debt across features.
